How Art Models Make Your World Better

VIDEO FEATURE: How art models and nude models show us naked humanity as art. Can you see naked women and men as art?

Models: Why are models and nude models matter

The word “model” brings up a wide range of associations for people.

Some people think of art models as nothing more than products of a superficial, image based culture. They say that models reinforce unfair and unrealistic beauty standards.

People seem to feel pressure and often compare themselves to these standards. They might feel shame, because they don’t feel like they live up to these standards, or resent that such standards exist in the first place.

At Model Society, we invite you to take a fresh look at what art models are and the role they play in culture. There is an opportunity to see models as subjects of art for us to experience with appreciation and wonder. Through the eyes of creative photographers and artists, art models offer something important for culture to consider.

When presented as art, models are not attaching their sexuality or beauty to a brand for the sake of marketing. Instead, they are offering their bodies, their beauty and their creativity for us to appreciate. They give us a chance to let go of our defenses and preconceptions, so that we experience our naked humanity as something wonderful. Models invite us to forget the manipulative phycology of a commercial culture and behold beauty as a source of joy. When our humanity is framed as a work of art, we have an opportunity to celebrate the things we have in common, as well as the things that make us unique.

There are those who would have you feel ashamed of what you are in order sell you something. They would have you feel as if you should change, so you’ll feel loved and accepted. In contrast, frees our shared humanity from these manipulative agendas and offers us human beauty as a gift. It gives us the opportunity to experience the beauty of what we are, as something truly miraculous.

At Model Society, models are bravely saying, “This is me exactly as I am… I am art.” The message for all of us is… “We are all beautiful exactly as we are.”

What does the word “model” mean to you? Can models help us learn to accept ourselves and each other more fully… so that even “perfectly” beautiful models seem like regular people… and “regular” people seem perfectly beautiful?

Special thanks to Jordan Bunniie as the model who appears in this article. The bright radiance of her images is a perfect example of why art models matter.
