Metamorphosis: Body Paint, Nudes and Nature

For a number of years art photographers Uwe Schmida and Laila Pregizer have devoted themselves to the integration of human subjects into landscapes. They have been using body paint to transform nude models into continuation of the natural features of the scenery. Their work invites the viewer to see the human figure as a part of nature. These remarkable images encourage us to enjoy the curves, forms and subtleties of the nude body just as we would enjoy the graceful shape of a tree, the gentle rise of hill or the abrupt angles of a rock formation.

Working with body painters Jörg Düsterwald and Léonie Gené, Uwe and Laila have carefully crafted poses, and colors that allow their figures to melt into the scenery. During all seasons the team created artwork with particularly beautiful backdrops. Model’s bodies were painted on location and then photographed. These amazing works of art are created purely with body paint and photography. No photoshop or compositing was used.
