Naked Authenticity: Ananda Rosen – Nude Art Model

VIDEO FEATURE – Naked Authenticity: Nude art model Ananda Rosen reveals her naked humanity

Nude art model, Ananda Rosen practices her nude modeling career as an expression of honesty and authenticity. Her modeling portfolio is warm, engaging and irrepressibly real. In her work, you will find her vulnerably sharing moments of joy, serenity, sexuality and bliss. Ananda uses her imagination to shine light on the truth, rather than obscure it. She occasionally takes on the imaginary role of a fairy or other fantasy character as an exploration of her own many facets. Ananda shares what she discovers and bravely allows herself to be fully seen in her modeling.

By unapologetically offering her naked humanity as a work of art, Ananda hopes to open people’s eyes to a way of seeing that reveals beauty in all things. She sees a harmonious relationship between both mathematics and spirituality woven through everything. Ananda sees being a nude art model as an opportunity to set an example for others. Ananda’s honest and revealing art gives all of us more permission to be ourselves. She encourages us to view our most true self, as the most beautiful thing we could ever be.

What inspires you?

I find inspiration in a great many things, but there are some things that seem to be an endless supply of inspiration for me. While many of my poses simply express different facets of myself, sometimes, I need to slip further into a certain character or expression. That’s when I turn to mythology and folklore primarily. For a shoot in which I need to look as if I’m just as much a part of nature as the tree I’m standing by, for example, I may choose to evoke a Greek nymph or a Celtic fae. Nature is also quite inspiring to me, and so is color, particularly deep red.

What does it feel like to be inspired?

Being inspired feels divine to me, like I’m channeling some grace meant for another to see. It’s meant to be a cycle, I think; what I want people to experience when they see my work is the authenticity and imperfect beauty that I seek to portray, and I hope that my pictures, in turn, spark others to express themselves as truthfully as possible. I would like to think that people seeing these images can become inspired to view themselves in both a brighter and more honest light. In particular, I hope that women can become more comfortable with their beauty inside and out and with their innate sexuality, which I truly believe is a gift of the gods to all of humanity.

What does the word “beauty” mean to you?

For me, beauty is really something that lies in and behind everything. If you look at anything with an artist’s eye, you can see the physical symmetry it has, which is the way the mind registers beauty; the evocative quality of emotional beauty, which is seen by our hearts; and then there’s the deeper, metaphysical meaning and symbolism behind it, which only the soul can see. Beauty is both mathematical and spiritual. Scientists understand that symmetry is really at the heart of what the universe is made of, and thus beauty is really at the core of all of us, too. It doesn’t matter whether you’re naturally big-boned, if you’re thin, tall and lanky or if you have hourglass curves. “Beauty is truth, truth is beauty” – simply be your own happy, healthy, authentic self, because that’s more beautiful than anything else in my opinion.

What is the most rewarding thing about becoming a modeling? Can you share a particular experience when this really stood out for you?

The most rewarding thing about nude modeling, for me, is being a muse and a canvas, of sorts, for the photographer or artist to work with. I can get in sort of a meditative state when I’m simply there to help make their vision come to life; it’s certainly a lot easier than sitting with my legs crossed and chanting, “om”, for me. I love collaborating on images as well. To bring it full circle, it’s those inspiring moments that help fully characterize the person I portray in these images that really make being an art model worth it for me.

Probably the most I ever felt this way was when modeling nude with Bob Karambelas in New Hampshire. He had these huge, lovely veils in light blue, green, and red. He used the green one as part of a backdrop, and I danced with the red one. I felt absolutely at peace while doing so, one with the universe, you might even say. The timing, lighting and colors turned out perfectly, but had that feeling of being so at home not been a part of it, I don’t think the images from that shoot would have turned out quite as well as they did. It’s that feeling of truth, of being a part of a cycle of inspiration that will endure, regardless of whether the image itself is remembered, that I love so much about what I do.
